Carstairs Get The Gold player wins C$200,000 in gold
Tanya Hareuther of Carstairs, Alberta, has won C$200,000 worth of gold on a Get The Gold scratch ticket, Western Canada Lottery Corporation announced on October 2, 2026.
She bought the C$50 ticket at Can Convenience, an Esso outlet at 841 Main Avenue W in Sundre. According to WCLC, she initially read the prize as C$200 before noticing the gold bar image and recognising the larger award.
The prize is gold bullion
Get The Gold's rules specify that a winning gold bar symbol awards gold bullion selected by WCLC, valued at approximately C$200,000. The published conditions require prizes to be accepted as awarded.
That makes the nature of this prize important: the advertised value describes the bullion award. It should not be read as confirmation that the operator paid Hareuther C$200,000 in cash.
In the ticket's first game, players match their numbers against five Golden Numbers. A match wins the corresponding prize printed below it; a qualifying gold bar prize symbol represents the bullion award.
There are also four separate symbol games, where three matching symbols within the same game win its stated prize. Two bonus areas can reveal additional cash amounts. These are different routes to a prize on the same scratch ticket.
Family plans include the mortgage
Hareuther told WCLC that she informed her husband and children after discovering the win. She said she intends to put part of the proceeds towards the mortgage and may arrange a trip.
WCLC publicly named her in its announcement, but did not specify when she bought or scratched the ticket. October 2 is the announcement date, rather than a draw date for this instant game.
The published ticket deadline
The game conditions give December 31, 2027 as the deadline for claiming prizes on Get The Gold ticket number 61005. WCLC lists overall odds of winning any prize as 1 in 3.06. That figure covers all prize levels, not the chance of receiving the gold bullion top prize.
