Kerry player claims €1,005,000 after finding raffle ticket in car glovebox

A Kerry player has claimed €1,005,000 after discovering that a EuroMillions raffle ticket had spent more than a week in a car glovebox, Ireland’s National Lottery announced on September 24.

The player had heard about a local win and discussed what someone might do with the money without realizing the ticket was sitting outside in their own car, according to the operator’s account.

Why the prize was more than €1 million

The total came from the special EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle. The ticket first qualified for a €5,000 raffle prize and then received the event’s additional €1 million award.

Together, those payments produced €1,005,000. The extra €5,000 was part of the raffle result, rather than a currency conversion or an estimate added to the main jackpot.

The National Lottery explained that ten Irish raffle codes normally win €5,000 in a EuroMillions draw. In this special event, one of those winning tickets also received the million euro addition.

That makes this a raffle claim. It should not be confused with winning the shared EuroMillions jackpot by matching five main numbers and both Lucky Stars, or with the separate EuroMillions Plus game.

The ticket came from a Killarney retailer

The operator identified the selling shop as Centra at The Reeks, Reeks Gateway, Tralee Road, Killarney, County Kerry.

It did not name the winner. The announcement also did not specify the underlying raffle draw date or publish the winning code, so the time spent in the glovebox should not be used to calculate a date that the operator has not supplied.

The September 24 development is the announcement of a completed claim. Unlike an unclaimed ticket appeal, the story does not ask an unidentified holder to come forward before a deadline: the ticket has already been found and the prize claimed.
