Regina Lotto 6/49 winner claims C$1 million from gift ticket

Last updated

David Johnson of Regina, Saskatchewan, has claimed C$1 million from Lotto 6/49, WCLC announced on September 28, 2026, after his ticket won in the July 15 Gold Ball draw.

The ticket was a gift from his son, Johnson told the operator. It came from the Co-op at 2925 Quance Street E in Regina.

His wife took it to a store to be checked. When the cashier told her the prize was C$1 million, she sent Johnson a message with the news.

A white ball produced the C$1 million award

WCLC identified the winning Gold Ball selection as 20726634-01 and confirmed that a white ball was drawn. Those details explain why the prize was C$1 million.

Lotto 6/49 includes two separate draws. The Classic Draw uses a selection of six numbers and has a C$5 million jackpot. The Gold Ball Draw uses an automatically issued number consisting of eight digits followed by a two digit suffix.

For the Gold Ball Draw, one selection is chosen from the entries issued for that draw. A separate ball selection determines whether its holder receives C$1 million or the accumulating Gold Ball jackpot.

The cycle begins with 29 white balls and one gold ball. Drawing white awards C$1 million; drawing gold awards the jackpot. A white ball is removed after it is drawn, and the jackpot increases by C$2 million if it is not won.

Johnson plans to share with family

Johnson told WCLC that he wants to share the winnings with his family, including his grandchildren, and is considering a new truck. The announcement confirms that he has claimed the prize.

The September announcement concerns that completed claim, rather than a new win in a September draw.

Lotto 6/49 draws take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Each C$3 selection includes both a Classic Draw entry and a Gold Ball entry. WCLC says the chance of holding the selected Gold Ball number depends on how many entries were issued for the particular draw.
