Powerball reaches $389 million after September 26 jackpot goes unwon

Last updated

Powerball’s jackpot has climbed to an estimated US$389 million for Monday, September 28, after nobody matched all six numbers in Saturday’s drawing. The estimated cash option is US$161.9 million, according to Powerball’s official jackpot display.

Saturday also produced no winners in either of the game’s two Match 5 categories. That leaves the jackpot rolling forward, although it does not mean there were no smaller prizes.

September 26 Powerball numbers

The five white balls were 14, 40, 52, 55 and 57. The red Powerball was 24, and the Power Play multiplier was 3x.

The dated September 26 result lists no jackpot winner, no US$1 million Match 5 winner and no US$2 million Match 5 winner with Power Play.

That result page records Saturday’s estimated jackpot at US$370 million, with a US$153.9 million cash value. Those figures describe the completed drawing. Monday’s US$389 million and US$161.9 million estimates belong to the next one.

The cash option is a different figure

The advertised US$389 million is the annuity estimate, not the amount offered as a single payment. Powerball says the annuity is paid through 30 graduated payments over 29 years; the alternative is the cash option. Both advertised amounts are before applicable taxes.

The September 28 drawing is scheduled for 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Powerball holds drawings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Anyone checking Saturday’s ticket should use the September 26 result rather than the next jackpot banner. The banner changes as the game moves on; the dated record identifies the numbers and top tier outcome for that specific drawing.
