Mega Millions moves to $300 million after Friday’s drawing

Last updated

Mega Millions is advertising an estimated US$300 million jackpot for Tuesday, September 29, following a Friday drawing without a jackpot winner. The cash option is US$124.1 million, as listed by the Delaware Lottery.

The September 25 jackpot had been estimated at US$277 million. With no ticket matching the complete winning combination, the advertised annuity rose by US$23 million for the following drawing.

Friday’s winning combination

The white balls were 25, 57, 58, 67 and 68. The Mega Ball was 16.

MyNewsLA’s report, citing the Mega Millions Consortium, said there were no jackpot winning tickets and no tickets matching all five white balls without the Mega Ball.

Those are the top two result categories. They do not describe every prize awarded in the drawing, so the rollover should not be read as a claim that nobody won anything.

What the two jackpot amounts mean

The US$300 million headline and US$124.1 million cash option are alternative prize presentations. They are not two amounts a winner would receive together. The larger figure refers to the advertised annuity, while the cash figure describes the single payment option before applicable taxes.

The next drawing is Tuesday, September 29, at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Delaware’s official page confirms that Mega Millions draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For Friday’s result, the key distinction is between the completed drawing and the new estimate: US$277 million was the advertised jackpot that went unwon; US$300 million is the estimate for September 29. Neither figure should be treated as a confirmed payment to a winner.
