The Mexican government has made things quite interesting by placing the houses of former drug lords as lottery prizes. The winners of the confiscated houses of some former Mexican drug lords will be announced on 15th September. The draw will also include several mansions, ranches, and a VIP box at the Azteca Stadium.
House of the infamous drug lord El Chapo is also among the winning prizes. The house is anything but lavish with a simple structure painted in white. It has a single floor, two bedrooms, a dining room, a lounge, and a garage. It is located in a good area which is quite near to the Culiacan park. The real-estate workers have been trying to put the house up for auction for several years.
At the moment, the price of the house is around $192,300 USD. Despite the clear-cut picture and vivid description of the house, it has not sparked the interest of any potential buyers. The house has witnessed some major moments in the history of drug trafficking. One of the most memorable ones is that Joaquin Guzman, who is one of the world’s biggest traffickers, slipped through the hands of the Mexican armed forces in this house.
The lottery was announced by the Return Stolen Goods to the People (INDEP) who joined the president’s drive to end corruption. The El Chapo house can be won by a lucky owner with the right ticket that only costs about $12.60.
Another drug lord confiscated property was also added in the auction as a part of real-estate prices. The property belongs to Amado Carrillo who is well-known was spreading cocaine on the US airports during the 1990s. This property is considered to be a jewel among the allotted prizes in the lottery. It is valued at around $2.53 million. It covers 3,000 square meters of land.
In total, the lottery has 22 properties which include several major houses, lands, and ranches in Guerrero State. It also includes the Azteca Stadium which has 20 seats. In case someone from outside Mexico wins these properties, they will be given the cash equivalent of the property’s value.
