The Mega Millions lottery draw on Tuesday, August 16th did not have a jackpot winner. Since there were no winners of the grand prize of $82 million, it means that it will continue to grow in the next draw.
Tuesday night’s draw
The winning numbers that were drawn on August 16th, Tuesday, in the Mega Millions lottery were 33, 35, 41, 45 and 51. 1 was the gold Mega Ball and 2X was the Megaplier.
As mentioned above, the grand prize had been $82 million and it came with a cash option of $46.8 million. But, there were no winners of the jackpot, which means that it will carry over.
Thus, the next drawing of the Mega Millions lottery, which is scheduled for Friday, August 19th, will have a jackpot of about $99 million and it will come with a cash value of $56.5 million.
Until a winner is selected, the Mega Millions jackpot will continue growing. But, there have been three jackpots that have not been claimed in the history of this lottery game.
The first time a jackpot had been unclaimed was back in 2002 when a ticket worth $68 million was not claimed by anyone.
A year later, another jackpot worth $46 million that had been won by a ticket in Brooklyn had not been claimed.
August 2006 also saw yet another jackpot that was not awarded, which was worth $13 million and the ticket had been purchased in Queens.
While Tuesday night’s Mega Millions draw may not have had a jackpot winner, there were other prizes that were given out.
First off, the draw saw one instant millionaire, as a player from Nebraska was able to match all the five numbers to win $1 million.
Had they opted to play the Megaplier, they would have doubled their winnings to $2 million. There were a number of other smaller prizes awarded as well.
A total of seven people were able to match four numbers, along with the Mega Ball, which allowed them to win a prize of $10,000 each.
One of these seven players had opted to play the Megaplier as well, so they doubled their winnings to $20,000. Other prizes given out on the night were between $2 and $1,000.
The Mega Millions lottery is played in a total of 45 states, along with the US Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.
