The Irish Lotto draw was conducted on Wednesday, January 5th, 2023 and had a jackpot of a whopping €11,106,438.
There was a lucky ticketholder who was able to match the numbers necessary for winning the massive jackpot.
It turns out that the store that sold the winning ticket for the €11 million lotto jackpot is based in County Limerick and it is a family-run local shop.
Located on Main Street, Foynes, the store named Kelly’s Costcutter had sold the winning ticket for Wednesday night’s Irish Lotto drawing.
It was a quick pick ticket that had been purchased on the same day as the draw was conducted.
According to the National Lottery, the winning ticket holder has already gotten in touch with their prize claims team and they are now making arrangements for them to collect their winnings.
The Costcutter store is operated by sister and brother Trisha and Eoin Kelly, who had taken over the business in 2018 from their parents.
In 2006, the same family-owned store had recorded a win in the EuroMillions lottery worth €9.6 million.
The store owners were contacted about the win. Trisha Kelly talked about their second big win and said that they had gotten the news on Thursday morning about a winning ticket being sold in Limerick.
She said that they had not known it was their store at the time and now they just cannot believe it. She added that they had also checked their own tickets to see if they were the winners, but they did not have the numbers.
She then said that they had gotten a call from the National Lottery and were told that their store had sold the winning ticket.
She said that the news was the next best thing they could have gotten other than the jackpot. The store owner said that big lottery wins give local stores a huge boost and their communities also benefit.
Trisha said that their store was no different either. She said that when they had sold the winning EuroMillions lottery ticket back in 2006, it was all the Foynes community had talked about for months, which had been great.
She went on to say that they were a close community and most of their customers are locals. Therefore, she said that the whole community would be thrilled for whoever the winner may be.
She said that while the town was celebrating, her brother was in Florida. She said that Eoin was disappointed to have missed out on the celebrations.
